Micro VC's, Accelerators & Other Seed Stage Funding Trends

New Economy New Rules is a monthly seminar presented by Barnes and Thornburg, LLP and hosted exclusively in Southwest Indiana by the SBDC. The topics seek to introduce revolutionary thinking about how business is done today and how it will be done tomorrow. A question and answer session follows short presentations by subject matter experts and VIP panelists.

Social Media Issues for Business - 2nd in a series

Cory Kuhlenschmidt, partner with Bowers Harrison, LLP law firm will address how employee use of social media in the workplace is changing the scope of  "workplace harassment"; and what steps and/or workplace policies employers should have in place to avoid social media "workplace" harassment. This topic will also address the common disability and genetic information discrimination pitfalls that social media exposes to employers. This topic is the second in a series of three.

Tax Incentives for Business Investment, Job Creation and Job Retention

Greg Wathen, President & CEO of the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana and Mark Miller, partner with Bowers Harrison, LLP law firm will discuss tax abatement as an economic growth tool. Tax abatement is a tool used by local government to attract private investment and create jobs by exempting all or a portion of the new or increased assessed value resulting from new investment from the property tax roll. There will also be a discussion on local and state incentives for business investment.

Diversity in the Workplace

In a partnership with the Evansville-Area Human Resources association Lori Sutton, Diversity * Inclusion Administrator with Vectren, will present a seminar on how to improve and nurture diversity in the workplace to help aid in attraction, retention and selection of employees. Also, there will be discussion on changing demographics and multiple generations in the workplace.
